Business Story
Like many of you, I was first a gardener who fell in love with planting roses. I searched various forums and platforms to learn where to buy roses in Toronto and stumbled upon a wholesale nursery. Excited about the prospect of sharing my love for roses, I placed my first order. The experience was amazing, and in 2020, I registered a sole proprietorship under the name Plant Mart Co., which can be found on the Ontario Business Registration.(I know the name may not be perfect, but I couldn’t come up with a better one, so we’ll stick with it for now.) As my orders increased and for future growth, I have registered Plant Mart Co. as an incorporated business in 2023.
What’s Next?
I’m currently enhancing our online presence by building business profiles on social media platforms. If you’re active on Instagram and Facebook, I invite you to subscribe to our FB page and Instagram account. Most of the content I share includes product photos, major store updates, and occasional insights into my gardening journey.
Also, during the summer season, we host a giveaway event each month on Facebook, where participants stand a chance to win a free plant from us.
As for the future plans of Plant Mart Co., they are currently under development. Once they are ready to be implemented, I’ll be sure to announce them. So, stay tuned!
About plantmart.ca
When I initially began, I relied on Excel to track every order and received payments via email transfers. Selling hundreds of roses each year meant that accounting became a chore and creating customer orders turned unwieldy. This led to the inception of this website, aiming to make payment processing and order creation more time-efficient.
During the development of this website, I was constantly learning – how to optimize the site, how to attract more customers, and in this process, I picked up some valuable skills.
Running this website allows me lets me indulge in my passion for rose gardening with an opportunity to earn some additional income. Plus, the continual learning is a pleasant surprise. All these elements combined are the driving force behind my enthusiasm for operating this micro business.
About Me
Over the last 4-5 years, I’ve taken a step back from social medias, including LinkedIn. Instead, I’ve been grounding myself in the great outdoors, finding solace and peace amidst nature. My journey with plants has been reciprocal – while I care for them, they’ve been my healing sanctuary. I’ve soaked up under the sun, savored the fragrance, marveled at the blooms, and cherished the camaraderie with fellow gardeners.
As of spring 2023, I have collected over 120 varieties of roses. Retaining this many plants are due to my love to rose gardening, and for the evaluation of the overall performance of the new plants sold each year, allowing me to provide more accurate plant information for customer at later time.
Recently, I’ve developed a new hobby: propagating succulents from seeds. This new hobby allows me to continue my plant journey throughout the long winter. (We all know how long our winter can last.) Each time I transplant the succulent babies, it’s both a labor-intensive and stress-relieving process, haha. There will be approximately 3,000 succulents that to be launched soon this year. I am working on Stay tuned, eh!
